Offered here is an Egyptian high priest wearing an overly ornate head-dress, complicated pleats and jewellery and accessories which bears resemblance to the lofty standards of the Belle Époque. Instead of holding a beast, the high priest holds three figures. We believe that the center figure is a Pharaoh. The figure on the right may be his wife/queen. And the figure on the left could be the son. This magnificent bronze is attributed to Emile-Louis Picault (1833-1915). The French sculptor, studied under Louis Royer, the Dutch sculptor, and exhibited a wide range of sculpture at the Salon between 1863 and 1909. His Egyptian subjects are some of his most popular works and follow in the tradition of ethnographical decorative sculpture in France during the latter part of the 19th Century.

The originals are part of the George Powell of Nanteos Bequest given to the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1882.
