We offer our rendition of the Greek philosopher, Socrates, located at the Louvre, identified by other portraits inscribed, carved or painted. The reproduced portrait in the Louvre may be the face of the statue's posthumous philosopher sitting, created by sculptor Lysippos to 318-317 BC. It is known by Diogenes Laertius ( Vitis PhilosophorumII, 5, 43), Greek writer of the third century AD, the original bronze, now lost, was ordered to Lysippus by the Athenians, and erected in the Agora, because 'they regretted that they had condemned Socrates to death.
